Children's innate affection for and empathy with Sanmao stems from his status as a wandering child, his poor yet persistent and optimistic nature, and the way his joys and sorrows seem so closely tied to ours! Sanmao is a historical reflection of that bygone era, yet he continues to criticize and inspire children across generations, teaching them courage, kindness, and optimism. This immortal comic strip once had a tremendous impact in China. Zhang Leping painted Sanmao's Adventures with tears mixed with his ink, expressing his deep sympathy for suffering children while also infusing his own life experiences and hardships into the work. He once said, "To draw Sanmao is to draw myself."
