In the late years of the Chen Dynasty, Emperor Chang of Sui murdered his father and brother, seizing the throne. Yang Guang was greedy and licentious, persecuting the virtuous, engaging in massive construction projects, and causing the people to suffer. General Qin Qiong, Cheng Yaojin, and other heroes swore an oath of brotherhood, demonstrating loyalty and righteousness, and rebelled against the Sui regime in Shandong to save their friends. They seized Mount Wang, electing "The World-Devastating Monster" Cheng Yaojin as their leader, robbing the rich to help the poor, and jointly opposing Emperor Chang's brutal rule.
After Li Mi succeeded as the leader of Mount Wang, his jealousy and incompetence led to internal conflicts. Meanwhile, Li Yuan, the Tang King who had long suffered persecution from Emperor Chang, also rebelled against the Sui Dynasty, overthrowing it and establishing the Tang Dynasty. Li Yuan's son, Li Shimin, was benevolent, righteous, and open to talent, which convinced most heroes of Mount Wang to willingly submit to him. He led them in battles across the land, helping Li Shimin eliminate his rivals and ascend the throne, ushering in the famous "Zhenguan Era" in Chinese history.
