Author Bio: Yu Miao, a native of Beijing, graduated from the International College of China Agricultural University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics (Media Direction). In 2001, she went to the University of Colorado in the United States to study Communication and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Since the age of 6, she has been writing diaries under the strict scolding of teachers and parents. At 14, her diary was compiled into a book and published by Guangdong Education Press, titled It's Not Easy Being a Kid. During her middle school years, she was a reporter for the Beijing Middle School Students' News Agency, always bustling with energy while juggling heavy academic pressures and busy with interviews and writing. She endured greater pressure than her peers but enjoyed the happiness they couldn't experience. In college, she served as the publicity minister for the student union for two terms and edited the college magazine and newspaper, from topic planning to layout and proofreading, without slacking off through the changing seasons. Over the years, she has published over 50 works in major newspapers and magazines, with two of her works included in The Best Chinese College Student Essays of the Year. At 21, she packed her bags to study in the United States but ultimately fulfilled her dream of "wandering the world," partly influenced by a green-eyed American named Zongfa, whose Chinese name is Xiao De. Since then, she has traveled with a different perspective, discovering that life has many possibilities, and everyone can maximize their experiences to make life more colorful.
David Youkey, an American, is known as Xiao De in this book. He graduated from the University of Colorado with a Ph.D. and enjoys Marx, Nietzsche, and Eastern philosophy. He has taught at seven universities in the United States, China, Mongolia, and Nepal. Like the ancient Greek and Eastern philosophers, he loves traveling and dreams of becoming a nomadic philosopher. Xiao De says, "Money is used to buy interesting experiences. I don't need a luxurious home or fancy clothes, because these things don't bring me richer experiences." He climbs rocks, kayaks, treks in Nepal, and travels around the United States in a plane he built with his grandfather in their garage. For Xiao De, life without colorful experiences is like living a wasted life, because living is about experiencing.

This is a book that seems like a travelogue! Although it includes local customs, cultures, and travel insights, I think the two authors didn't realize at first that they were writing a travelogue but rather a lifestyle!
Same as "Nomadic Philosopher" to travel
