Features: "Ecological Industry Construction and Theory and Practice in Arid and Desert Regions" includes 13 chapters, divided into General Introduction and Special Topics, with a total of 575,000 words. It is edited and compiled by Chen Yanning, a researcher at the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The General Introduction covers chapters such as the driving forces behind ecological industry construction in desert regions, industrial selection and construction objectives, industrial structure and construction models, supporting technologies and models, objectives and tasks for establishing an ecological security assurance system, technologies for building an ecological security and protection system in desert oases, and the ecological compensation mechanisms and policy support systems for ecological industry construction. The Special Topics elaborate on the construction technologies for desert-efficient ecological grass industry, ecological pharmaceutical industry, ecological specialty fruit industry, safety and assurance systems, as well as desert ecological tourism and sustainable development strategies.
"Ecological Industry Construction and Theory and Practice in Arid and Desert Regions" is an academic monograph that integrates scientific rigor, systematicity, foundational knowledge, cutting-edge insights, and practicality. Its key features lie in leveraging new thinking, technologies, and materials to address the characteristics of China's western arid regions. It selects biogenetic resources suited to the local ecological environment to develop specialized economies, constructs an ecological economic assurance system, and achieves an organic integration of ecological and economic processes. The book promotes the development of efficient ecological industries in ecologically fragile desert areas, strengthens the utilization of desert land resources to cultivate desert ecological forests, grasslands, and pharmaceuticals, enhances biological productivity in desert regions, and explores ecological construction models such as returning farmland to forests and grasslands in environmentally vulnerable areas. It aims to manage and develop increasingly deteriorating ecological environments in a way that maximizes benefits while minimizing harm. The book also seeks to cultivate modern specialized economic growth points, open new income channels for farmers and herdsmen, promote regional industrial structure optimization and sustainable economic development, accelerate overall social progress, and fundamentally create a favorable social living environment. This ultimately enhances production efficiency and quality of life, providing a scientific demonstration for China's western development strategy.
This book is a significant outcome of the National "Five-Year Plan" Key Project "Comprehensive Development Technology Demonstration of Efficient Ecological Industry in Arid and Desert Regions." Wang Lequan, a Politburo Standing Committee member and Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, made an important comment on the project's progress: "Your research addresses the most urgent problems facing Xinjiang." Li Wenhua, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Liu Yi, Vice Governor of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, respectively wrote prefaces for the book, praising the innovative nature of the scientists' proposal to develop ecological industries in desert areas. Li Wenhua stated, "In-depth theoretical exploration and accurate technical application are fundamental requirements for applied science, and they are a prominent feature of this book." Liu Yi added, "We commend the concept of desert ecological industry, as it aligns with Xinjiang's reality and adapts to its environment, providing a framework for thinking and direction. We support the testing and promotion of desert ecological industry, as it reflects the dedication and wisdom of scientific personnel and brings new growth points to Xinjiang's agricultural development." Liu Yi also remarked, "Efficient ecological industry construction in desert regions is the mainstream of future land development in Xinjiang."
The book systematically and comprehensively elaborates on the basic concepts, theoretical framework, and supporting technologies and models of desert ecological industry from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It serves as a reference for students and researchers in ecology, ecological engineering, forestry, agriculture, grassland science, horticulture, tourism, and environmental science, as well as for government departments involved in industrial and ecological design.
"Desert ecological industry" is an efficient ecological construction model that integrates ecological and economic processes under extreme arid conditions, offering new pathways for ecological security and economic development in arid regions. The book systematically and comprehensively explores the fundamental concepts, theoretical framework, and supporting technologies and models of desert ecological industry from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It is a valuable reference for students and researchers in ecology, ecological engineering, forestry, agriculture, grassland science, horticulture, tourism, and environmental science, as well as for government departments engaged in industrial and ecological design.
