Features: Poetry is one of the earliest literary forms, existing even before the invention of writing as folk songs—part of oral literature. The origin of poetry is generally believed to stem from human productive labor. During labor, whether carrying or hunting, people would emit various high, low, long, and short sounds, engaging in call-and-response, synchronized with the rhythm of their actions to alleviate fatigue. Why do humans sing and compose poetry? In terms of the nature of its origin, there is a theory of psychological origin, suggesting that poetry arises from the need for humans to express their emotions. Humans are born with emotions—whether joy or sorrow, or other experiences in life—all of which require appropriate outlets, and poetry is the most natural and direct way. In real life, poetry is truly the best tool for comforting the soul, (adjusting the spirit), and uplifting emotions. This is also why early humans, during their long and tedious labor, had to rely on poetry to express their hearts.
