Poetic Construction of Contemporary and Modern Chinese Prose

Publish Date: 2004-11-01
Features: The author intentionally avoids research on topics such as "prose techniques," "writing methods," and "prose appreciation," instead focusing his exploration on the poetic construction of Chinese prose theory. As a foundational and exploratory monograph on literary theory, the author's task is to clear the foundation of prose by reviewing and summarizing modern Chinese prose theory. To this end, the book redefines concepts such as the definition of prose, the "vacuum and fiction," "authentic emotions," and "great prose" and "genre." Through a historical reflection on traditional prose theory, and by clearing the foundation and constructing a discourse on prose theory, the book establishes its logical starting point for research, thereby defining the modern critical perspective of prose studies. In this book, the author incorporates the spirit of traditional cultural poetics while drawing on some reasonable elements of Western narratology and structuralist criticism to study the imagery, narration, structure, and language of prose. The author hopes that through the exploration of prose forms, the modern research perspective of prose can be effectively expanded, giving prose the theoretical tension to challenge from the periphery to the center, and securing its place in the poetic world of the 20th century. The book consists of twelve chapters, including: A Bird's-Eye View of Modern Chinese Prose Theory, Definition of Modern and Contemporary Prose Categories, Constructing a New Discourse of Prose Theory, The Personality Subjectivity of Prose Writers, The Poetic Wisdom of Prose, etc.
