Features: Series of Contemporary Israeli Literature. One of the representative works of the peak period of the most outstanding modern Hebrew-language novelist and Nobel laureate Agnon. Agnon (1888-1970) is the most prominent modern Hebrew-language novelist in Israel, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966. A Simple Story is one of his representative works during the peak of his creative period. The story takes place in a small town in southern Poland in the early 20th century, with the Jewish people and their lives in the town forming numerous characters and profound themes in the novel. An orphan girl lives with a wealthy relative, developing a tragic love affair with their only son. Lovebirds cannot always be together. But life must go on, and life still continues. After enduring the torment of longing, (negative resistance), and even mental breakdown, the male protagonist finally begins to face reality and life with resignation. With the perfect technique of Flaubert and Thomas Mann, the author tells this not-so-simple story in a delicate manner, skillfully blending romantic love with mundane reality, bone-chilling tragedy with worldly humor.
