Features: The Baldrige Excellence Framework embodies the path to success! It is the way for organizations to achieve excellence in performance and uphold integrity to win business success. Every user of the Baldrige Criteria is a winner. The criteria help various organizations adapt to current challenges and manage complexity, which comes from the need to deliver results today while effectively addressing the future. The 2005 revision of the criteria reflects the unique pressures faced by senior leaders, highlights organizational innovation rather than just technological innovation, and addresses the challenges of long-term survival and sustainability for high-performance enterprises. The criteria place greater emphasis on execution, reflecting the importance of agility and execution speed. In the face of these challenges, how will your organization perform? Whether your business is large or small, in the service or manufacturing sector, operating locally or globally, the criteria provide a valuable framework to help you measure performance and navigate uncertainty. The criteria can help you align resources with various initiatives, such as ISO 9000, lean management, balanced scorecards, Six Sigma, and more, improve communication, productivity, and effectiveness, and achieve strategic goals. This criterion is in your hands—it’s an incredible opportunity. Why not seize it? Once you open it, you unlock the door to excellence in performance. —Harry S. Herz, Director of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program
Faced with this booklet, "The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program—Excellence Criteria," you may have a series of questions: What are the Excellence Criteria? What are their benefits? Can I or my organization benefit from them? How difficult is it to implement them? Over the past decade or so, two noteworthy trends have emerged in organizational management. One trend is that many governments have established national quality awards to elevate the management standards of various organizations and strengthen and enhance the competitiveness of their industries. The other trend is that national quality award criteria have become the basis for organizations to evaluate their own management standards and guide internal improvement efforts. The criteria of the U.S. Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award are known as the Excellence Criteria and have become de facto international standards for business management. Self-assessing organizational performance against these award criteria has become a global trend over the past decade. It is worth noting that based on reference to world-renowned quality award criteria and combined with China’s practices, the Chinese National Standard GB/T 19580 was officially released in August 2004. This marks a new stage in the promotion of the Excellence Model in China. The release of this standard quickly attracted attention and importance from the business community and related fields, indicating that many enterprises and individuals will engage in its implementation. The Malcolm Baldrige Excellence Criteria will provide valuable assistance in the effective implementation of China’s national standards.
