Features: This book is an annual compiled and published academic and reference tool that densely packs information, primarily documenting the new situations and progress of military forces worldwide each year. Its task is to guide with Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the "Three Represents" Important Thought, adhere to the Four Cardinal Principles, and face modernization, the world, and the future, providing a relatively comprehensive and systematic introduction to the basic military situations and dynamics of countries worldwide within the year. The primary service are military personnel at all levels, military research institutions, academies, and units, while also catering to a broad readership outside the military interested in the development and changes of world military. This volume of the Almanac features 9 sections: Major Military Events; Military Surveys of Countries; Military Theoretical Research; Military Technology; Military Construction; International Treaties; World Military Chronology; Special Features; and Color Photos. The time frame for the materials in this volume of the Almanac is generally from January to December 2003, with a few extending to the first half of 2004. Certain special topic materials and newly established categories (items, entries) include limited background information from before 2003 to provide readers with more systematic and comprehensive details. The "Military Surveys of Countries" section includes over 170 military forces or military organizations from countries and regions. These are arranged by continent, in the order of Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania. Within each continent, countries and regions are generally listed in the order of the Chinese pinyin alphabet.
