The atlas is created using modern digital cartographic techniques, fully incorporating the distinctive elements of outstanding domestic and international atlases in terms of map layout, content selection, representation methods, printing, and binding, striving to achieve a harmonious unity of scientific rigor, knowledge, practicality, and artistic quality. The data used in the "China Atlas" is authoritative and highly current. Administrative boundaries at the provincial level are drawn based on the 1:1,000,000 "Legal Atlas of Administrative Boundaries of the People's Republic of China" released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the National Bureau of Surveying and Mapping in June 2004, with administrative division data for counties and above updated to June 2004. Statistical data in the preliminary maps and text descriptions primarily adopts information from the 2003 editions of the "China Statistical Yearbook," "China City Statistical Yearbook," and "China Population Statistical Yearbook."
