According to statistics, the Kuomintang officially announced and unannounced generals before 1949 numbered nearly 5,000, of whom nearly 900 were major generals. Due to limited space and available materials, this book includes most of the Kuomintang's senior generals and some influential major generals, totaling 253. The basic principle of the editor is to be realistic, respect history, and objectively outline the experiences of the individuals in politics, military, and other aspects. The military rank system of the Kuomintang generals is relatively complex, especially for senior generals, which are divided into special, first-class, and second-class ranks, as well as senior generals without classification and posthumously promoted senior generals and major generals promoted to senior general rank. The so-called "major general promoted to senior general rank" was stipulated in the "Provisional Regulations on Promoting Major Generals to Senior General Rank" issued on April 14, 1936: "Those who meet the requirements for promotion to senior general rank may be promoted to senior general rank first due to limited positions," and "when a second-class senior general position becomes vacant, the most outstanding among those who have been promoted to senior general rank will be selected to fill the position." Accordingly, this book categorizes senior generals into four ranks: special senior generals, first-class senior generals, second-class senior generals, and senior generals (including those promoted, posthumously promoted, and major generals promoted to senior general rank), followed by major generals. Some Kuomintang generals from the Republican era who were promoted to senior generals after moving to Taiwan by the Taiwan authorities are included in the senior general category. All types of generals are arranged by stroke order of their surnames.
