This time, we continue to use the same name, attempting to enrich the content of the "New Classics Collection" with a different selection approach and presenting the splendid landscape of contemporary Chinese literary creation. This is how the series of books you see today came into being. There is no doubt that the phenomenon of "valuing the ancient and neglecting the modern" in the study of "modern and contemporary literature" has long existed. The awkward and even incongruous naming of "modern and contemporary literature," although generously combining "contemporary literature" and "modern literature" into a "discipline" (frankly speaking, many of our researchers, when talking about what they "do," will say "I am engaged in modern and contemporary literature," but in their hearts, everyone knows clearly that within this discipline, the barrier between "modern literature" and "contemporary literature" may not be strict, but the boundary is still there), has always been fragmented in terms of disciplinary discourse and knowledge systems. Although some outstanding scholars have emerged in recent years who can bridge the gap between "modern literature" and "contemporary literature," and the proposal of "20th Century Chinese Literature" once avoided awkwardness in academic research, the integration problem of the discipline has not been resolved. The series of books now being published also aims to reflect a new perspective: it is not just a general selection but a comprehensive work synthesized from research, documents, and classic texts. Such an idea may bring a touch of novelty to the current literary scene.
