Features: The Rites of Lu is a work compiled under the direction of Lu Buwei, the prime minister of the Qin state during the late Warring States period. It extensively incorporates the thoughts of the pre-Qin philosophers, making its content extremely rich. The Rites of Lu is also the greatest synthesizer of the pre-Qin Hundred Schools of Thought and a valuable legacy in the history of Chinese intellectual and cultural development. The entire work is divided into three main parts: twelve Ji (Records), eight Lan (Pleasures), and six Lun (Discourses), totaling one hundred and sixty chapters. The compilation of this volume follows the unified style of the entire book, dividing each section into three parts: famous quotes, key principles, and stories. The Rites of Lu is a work of the Zhai (Syncretic) school, so the original text primarily focuses on quotes from the Hundred Schools of Thought that contribute to moral cultivation, covering aspects such as upholding integrity, self-discipline, emphasizing righteousness, emulating sages, striving for learning, practicing in action, prioritizing righteousness over profit, reflecting on the virtuous, and extending kindness to others. The quotes selected in this section on political ethics mainly involve people-centered governance, placing the virtuous in positions of authority, winning people over with virtue, and setting an example for the people. The story of "a single character worth a thousand gold" originates from this. The compilation of this book is guided by pragmatism and critical inheritance, adhering to the principle of equal emphasis on ideological depth, historical significance, cultural value, and accessibility. It maintains the unity of history and logic, ancient thought and contemporary needs, as well as the balance between advancement and popularization.
