Features: The Department of Basic Art Education of the China Academy of Art was officially established in 2003 and is a key discipline nationwide. The Department of Basic Art Education serves as the starting point of a chain structure comprising a cross-disciplinary "" ( means "carrier" in Chinese, but here it seems to be used metaphorically for a large platform) and a cluster of discipline studios. It is a joint unit for foundational teaching and research, integrating the teaching resources of various disciplines such as oil painting, printmaking, comprehensive arts, new media, and sculpture within the School of Fine Arts. In addition to teaching undergraduate students, it also offers postgraduate and graduate-level education in this field. The modern higher art education philosophy in China originates from the West. In the early 20th century, Chinese scholars introduced Western art education systems and aesthetic ideas. Through the introduction and dissemination of the Soviet art education system in the mid-1950s and the impact of Western modern art trends in the mid-1980s, these have significantly influenced the models and philosophies of higher art education in China. Today, in the 21st century, how can we face the excellent artistic traditions of the past while absorbing the essence of both Eastern and Western art education systems? How can we integrate creative thinking and artistic achievements from contemporary art activities into the curriculum structure at the forefront of disciplines? These are questions we must seriously consider.
Sketching is a primary focus on training students' observation methods, (artistic modeling skills), and painting language. On the basis of a profound sense and understanding of the internal structure and morphological characteristics of forms, it enables students to accurately grasp the structure of forms, express the spatial and textural qualities of objects, and gradually cultivate the expressive ability of their subjective individual language. This book features selected works from the China Academy of Art's Department of Basic Art Education, showcasing the teaching achievements of the department.
