Features: This book is the second volume of the "Oriental" series university-level Russian textbook co-authored by Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Pushkin Russian Language Institute. It is designed for the second semester. The main teaching tasks for this stage are: 1. Teaching commonly used vocabulary and sentence patterns within the themes of daily life and school life, cultivating listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, and developing communicative abilities for dialogue and narration; 2. Introducing basic grammar points to build a solid grammatical foundation; 3. Closely integrating reading aloud, speech training, and grammar instruction to consolidate the achievements of phonetic teaching and improve pronunciation and intonation quality. The second volume consists of 12 lessons, covering over 720 new words (excluding supplementary texts) and more than 30 grammar points. The structure of the textbook is as follows:
I. Vocabulary, Pronunciation, and Speech Training
1. Scope of Speech: Provides common speech patterns for the topic, enabling students to master them correctly and skillfully, preparing them for situational dialogues.
2. Dialogue Examples: Show the application of speech patterns in typical communicative contexts of this theme. Dialogues include many words and phrases from the speech patterns. Students should understand the content of the dialogues, grasp the usage of words, read and practice them accurately and fluently, retell the content, and create dialogues according to given scenarios or examples.
3. Main Text: Provides examples of narrative monologues. Exercises include language practice (declension, conjugation, collocation, case connection, cognates, synonyms, usage of common words and sentence patterns), exercises to check comprehension of the text, and exercises to develop coherent spoken and written language.
4. Supplementary Texts: Supplements the main texts, focusing on cultivating the ability to understand the main idea of reading materials and independent work skills.
5. Listening: Focuses on improving listening skills while consolidating learned vocabulary and appropriately developing speech abilities.
6. Tests: Based on comprehensive review of the learned language materials, they check students' abilities in dialogue and monologue (both spoken and written) within the scope of this topic. The vocabulary and language materials provided in the textbook primarily focus on items 1–3, which are the key for final tests. Classes with a higher starting level can appropriately increase the requirements for supplementary texts and listening materials.
II. Grammar
The grammar points in this volume are arranged in an alternating manner between morphology and syntax, building on the grammar introduction of the previous volume. Starting from basic grammatical concepts, each lesson briefly introduces the fundamental knowledge of parts of speech and various sentence structures. The morphology section includes the usage of noun cases, the basic meanings of verb aspects, the degrees of adjectives and adverbs, motion verbs, the imperative and subjunctive moods of verbs, the declension and usage of numerals, and prepositions. The syntax section covers the components of a sentence, types of simple sentences, and the basic knowledge of subordinate clauses (explanatory, attributive, and temporal clauses). To achieve the purpose of reviewing case formation, the usage of cases is combined with the usage of prepositions. The inclusion of declarative, imperative, exclamatory, affirmative, and negative sentences is designed to integrate the basic patterns of Russian sentences with training in pronunciation and intonation, verb moods and tenses, and sentence word order. This volume's grammar focuses on the morphology of words and common basic sentence patterns, requiring students to gradually master and refine word formation skills through the use of various sentence patterns. To this end, classroom teaching should transform the taught grammatical knowledge into language skills through extensive practice.
