Yang rising, heat steaming, fluid deficiency—anger stirring Yang, coinciding with the season of spring wood's ascent, when the internal wind of jueyin invades the empty meridians of Yangming, ascending to the throat, encircling the clear space behind the ears. Excessive ascension leaves the extremities without nourishment from fat and fluid, causing numbness in the joints. These are the roots of fei (heat stroke), known as lower deficiency and upper excess, often leading to diseases at the top of the head. The heat generated by emotional changes does not follow the principles of using Huangqin and Huanglian for bitter descent or Xiangfang and Fangfeng for pungent dispersion. The liver is a strong organ that requires gentleness and moisture to achieve harmony. Fresh radix rehmanniae, radix scrophulariae, folia mori, moutan bark, horn of przewalski, and cerasus fructus all have the function of nourishing the four limbs and alleviating numbness.
