Features: The author took the time to review over 200 articles written in Chinese in the past and selected 50 of them to compile this collection of essays. Many of the essays in the collection were originally published in the journal China Music during the 1980s and 1990s. At that time, the editor Xue Liang did not favor footnotes in the articles and particularly disliked lengthy ones, so many footnotes were edited out or even removed during publication. Since the original drafts were not preserved, it is now almost impossible to restore the original footnotes even within China. Therefore, the footnotes are printed as they appeared in the original publications. Additionally, the academic standards of the current research were provided by his relatives, but they are unwilling to disclose their identities, so I have not indicated the source. The creation of these shortcomings has historical reasons, and I hope readers can give understanding.
