Features: Each story in Black Jokes is short and concise. In today's fast-paced world, it can be considered a very appealing horror fast-food option. Moreover, at the end of each story, the author suddenly pushes you from behind, making you feel like you're falling without support—just like bungee jumping. In recent years, the horror novel market in China has seen a surge, with various horror literary works often printing tens of thousands of copies. However, the pioneer of "local horror" creation is undoubtedly Zhou Dedong, currently residing in Beijing. Recently, Chang'an Press China has launched the "Timid Souls" series of Chinese and foreign horror works: Black Jokes, Love, Don't Bloom, and Zhou Dedong's Firsthand Horrors, which are Zhou Dedong's latest works following the 773 horror series. In these three novels, Zhou Dedong pays special attention to the "de-horrorization" of horror novels—love, hatred, and emotions; hardships and displacement; and the "horror" that friends, family, and colleagues may encounter at any moment. The writing touches on the rich and varied "special human survival states" such as love, jealousy, and revenge, as well as the "mutations" of real life. Through a series of seemingly eerie stories, it attempts to make readers experience the tension brought by suspense and mystery, gradually revealing the weaknesses of human nature and the dark side of society.
