Features: New Interchange is one of the most popular and influential English textbooks internationally. It incorporates eight years of classroom experience from global use, improves the original Interchange through extensive feedback from students and teachers, and enhances various aspects of the material. The main revisions include new conversation exercises (Conversations), new cultural snapshots (Snapshots), new reading exercises (Readings), more comprehensive grammar explanations and activities (Grammar Focus models and activities), and more abundant listening materials. At the same time, the teacher's book, workbook, and video content have also been extensively revised. New Interchange is a large-scale English textbook designed for learners in non-English-speaking countries. The content covers the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as pronunciation training and vocabulary expansion. It particularly emphasizes the development of listening and speaking skills. The primary goal of this book is to cultivate English communicative competence, i.e., the ability to flexibly use English according to communication contexts, purposes, and audience. The book mainly uses American English, but its content is not limited to any single country, region, or culture; instead, it reflects the richness and diversity of English as a global language. This textbook is divided into four levels: Introductory, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3.
Introductory Level: Designed for true beginners with no English foundation, it explains basic grammar structures, vocabulary, and language functions.
Level 1: Aimed at learners with elementary English proficiency, it further develops grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, enabling learners to reach a lower-intermediate to intermediate level.
Level 2: Aimed at learners with a lower-intermediate English level, it further enhances grammar, vocabulary, and pragmatic skills, preparing learners for an intermediate level.
Level 3: Aimed at learners with an intermediate English level, it develops the ability to communicate in relatively fluent and accurate English.
This textbook uses a variety of engaging and challenging exercises to help students further consolidate and develop their English communicative skills. In addition to applied skills exercises, the material also includes more advanced discourse comprehension exercises. Listening exercises include: listening to narratives, listening to advertisements, listening to discussions, and listening to interviews. Reading activities include: cross-cultural communication themes, lifestyle themes, themes of different values, and other authentic reading passages. After completing these four levels, learners can achieve an upper-intermediate to advanced level.
