Bai Maren (1626–1705), originally named Zhu Da, was a descendant of Ming Prince Ningxian Zhu Quan. After the Qing army entered the capital and the country fell, he shaved his head to become a monk to escape political turmoil, adopting the self-name "Kugu Monk." He only returned to secular life in his later years. His achievements in bird-and-flower painting, landscape painting, and calligraphy were particularly outstanding. Because he once became a monk and excelled in both painting and calligraphy, he was known as the "Brush and Ink Zen Master." His works often feature exaggerated and distorted imagery. For example, in "Fish and Bird Painting," the fish and birds are disproportionately sized and appear bizarre, leaving a striking and unforgettable impression. His representative works include "Anwan Painting," "Shuimu Qinghua Painting," "Landscape and Bird-and-Flower Painting," "He Shang Hua Painting," "Yangliu Yuqin Painting," "Qiutree Magpie Painting," and so on.
