Features: The Daur people, a nation primarily engaged in agriculture with supplementary activities in animal husbandry and hunting/fishing, live along the rich and beautiful banks of the Nen River in Northeast China. The Daur people number 121,357. They are mainly distributed in Morin Dawa Daur Autonomous Banner, Ewenki Autonomous Banner, Qiqihar City in Heilongjiang Province, and Tacheng in Xinjiang. The Daur people have their own language, which belongs to the Mongolic branch of the Altaic language family. Due to their long-term coexistence and labor with local ethnic groups, most Daur people are bilingual in Chinese, Mongolian, Uyghur, Kazakh, and Ewenki. "Daur" is the self-name of the Daur people, and the name first appeared during the late Yuan Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty. According to relevant historical records, legends, and studies on the Daur language, geographical distribution, and living customs, the Daur people share ancestral ties with the ancient Khitan people.
