Features: The Public English Test System (PETS) is a national English proficiency examination system designed and administered by the Ministry of Education National Examination Center. PETS is China's only multi-level authoritative English testing system for all citizens, with no restrictions on age, occupation, or educational background. People can choose to take any level of the exam based on their English proficiency. PETS A consists of two relatively independent assessment parts: a written test and an oral test, which comprehensively evaluate candidates' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Qualified candidates are awarded corresponding English proficiency certificates to meet the needs of English ability assessment and the talent market. The standards for PETS Level 2 and Level 4 exams are used to reform the current college entrance examination and postgraduate entrance examination English tests, while PETS Level 2 and Level 3 exams are used to replace the public English tests in vocational and undergraduate examinations of higher education self-study programs. The PETS Level 5 exam has replaced the English test in the National Foreign Language Proficiency Test (WSK·EPT). The Ministry of Education National Examination Center has developed the syllabi for all levels of PETS, providing detailed introductions to the design background, level standards, exam formats, structures, contents, and sample papers, serving as guidelines for standardized question setting, candidate preparation, and teacher guidance. Additionally, to meet the learning needs of candidates, the center has organized the compilation of a series of exam textbooks. The "National English Test Syllabus" and the "National English Test Series Textbooks" are published and distributed exclusively by Higher Education Press under the authorization of the Ministry of Education National Examination Center.
