Features: This book systematically introduces the theory of digital signal processing, the corresponding algorithms, and the software and hardware implementation of these algorithms. The book consists of 14 chapters, divided into two parts, each with 7 chapters. Part 1 covers fundamental concepts of discrete-time signals and systems, Z-transform and analysis of discrete-time systems, discrete Fourier transform, fast Fourier transform algorithms, phase, structure, and state-space representation of discrete-time systems, and digital filter design (IIR, FIR, and special types of filters). Part 2 includes orthogonal transforms of signals (definition and properties of orthogonal transforms, Karhunen-Loève transform, DCT, and its applications in image compression), typical algorithms in signal processing (such as decimation and interpolation, subband decomposition, modulation and demodulation, deconvolution, SVD, independent component analysis, and homomorphic filtering), basic concepts of stationary random signals, classical power spectrum estimation, parametric model power spectrum estimation, finite-word-length problems in digital signal processing, and hardware implementation of digital signal processing. The book introduces most of the MATLAB files used in digital signal processing and provides specific examples. The accompanying CD-ROM contains 40 signal processing subroutines and programs written in FORTRAN and C, as well as nearly 100 MATLAB programs for solving most of the examples in the book and generating their illustrations. Except for Chapter 14, each chapter includes exercises and computer-based practice problems. This book elaborates on the fundamental theories and concepts of digital signal processing while reflecting the recent advancements in the field over the past 20 years. The chapter arrangement is logical, the explanations are detailed, and the arguments are clear, making it suitable for self-study. The book can serve as a textbook and reference for graduate students and senior undergraduate students in science and engineering, as well as for self-study by engineering professionals.
