Penetrating the Six-Level College English Test (CET-6) (June 2000~June 2004) (Audio + Book) (Audio + Book)

Author: Wang Jiaoyang
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-08-01
Features: Currently, there are no fewer than dozens of versions of books about past actual exam questions. Based on a comprehensive review of these books, we have done a significant amount of work, forming the unique characteristics of this book:
1. Refined Answers Some students might ask: Is it even a problem if the answers are wrong? Let's be honest and tell you that based on the information we've collected, it's hard to find a single book among the many available—some of which are quite famous—with answers that are entirely correct. Many students are baffled by incorrect answers and annotations after completing the questions. For the same question, checking three books might yield three different answers, leaving them unsure which one to trust. Therefore, this book uniquely proposes the principle of "emphasizing the correctness and uniqueness of answers," which is considered a "novelty" in this field in China.
2. Full Translation Translation is an excellent method for improving the English proficiency of non-English majors. Through dedicated effort, this book provides full translations for all sections except listening, revealing the surface and essence of the CET-4 exam questions to candidates. On one hand, it serves as a reference for students when they don't understand the meaning. More importantly, we hope that students can transform the entire exam into a translation exercise. In this way, your English skills will fundamentally improve.
3. In-depth Explanations A common experience for students when reading books is that many of them have a highly arbitrary approach to explaining questions—"they elaborate on what you already know but gloss over or even skip what you don't understand." Many books explain difficult points with vague reasoning like, "It doesn't match the context, so it's the wrong answer." The compilers of this book are teachers who have been deeply involved in teaching for many years and are very familiar with students' situations. Based on extensive statistical data accumulated from teaching, we provide in-depth explanations for the questions. If 90% of people can answer a question correctly, we won't explain it; but if more than half of the people get it wrong, we will explain it in detail, without avoiding the important points. This makes the doubts clearer and the difficulties more prominent. This is why we dare to call this section "in-depth explanations."
Based on a comprehensive and scientific analysis of the needs of CET-4 candidates, we have devoted ourselves to the compilation, annotation, and translation of this book. The answers, annotations, and translations in this book are correct, targeted, and authoritative. We recommend using the complete set of actual exam papers as the primary material for pre-exam intensive training, rather than relying on predictions or guesswork. We emphasize that through practice with full actual exam papers, students can review the key points and difficulties of college English teaching, which will help them integrate their knowledge of English and master language skills more effectively. Anyone who tries to take shortcuts, look for tricks, or rely on predictions will ultimately face repeated failures. Therefore, we must start with solid fundamentals, including vocabulary and grammar, and then systematically improve reading, listening, writing, and translation skills. In the final days before the exam, it's essential to do several more sets of full actual exam papers to conduct practical drills on knowledge and skills, identify gaps, and bridge them. This is the key to success in passing the CET-4 exam.
The CET-4 exam is an achievement-based test. While achievement tests have the advantage of scientifically designed questions with strong reliability and validity, they also have drawbacks: many fixed question types and patterns exist in the questions. In reality, a single exam paper is merely a specific manifestation or variation of these fixed question types and patterns. If you practice extensively and understand the test-taking patterns, it's easy to overcome the challenges of the CET-4 exam. Many students even score higher than their actual abilities. The CET-4 exam is similar to the TOEFL exam in that both are achievement-based tests. Many Chinese students who are not very proficient in English can achieve relatively high scores after practicing TOEFL papers. It's not unusual for Chinese students to score 600 on TOEFL. The same principle applies to the CET-4 exam—studying actual exam papers is a shortcut.
