Features: Collects classic works of international graphic design masters · Demonstrates the newest concepts in international graphic design education. Professor Hegmann teaches at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Austria, so this book presents the characteristics of modern Austrian design creation and teaching. The book also conveys his artistic philosophy: design is not merely an aesthetic expression or a pure transmission of information, but should be a carrier of ideas. Hegmann has won numerous international design awards, including: New York Type Directors Club Excellence Awards (1995, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004); Austrian Design Joseph Binder Award Gold Medal (1996); American New York Art Directors Club Silver Award (1997); American New York Art Directors Club Excellence Awards (1997, 2003, 2004); German Red Dot Design Annual Awards (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004); German Red Dot Design Annual Best of the Best Award (2003); Sofia Theatre Poster Triennial Special Award (1998); Golden Bee Award in Moscow, Russia (1998), etc.
Shi Gang Yingzi defines design as: 1. Eternity; 2. Revolution; 3. Originality. I would like to recommend her design philosophy to Chinese design classrooms. This triangular concept embodies interpretations of technology, courage, creativity, and cultural heritage in design academia. You may not agree with my claim of elevating design to an academic realm, but the existence of design education itself is an acknowledgment of design as an academic discipline. Design is a systematic field with teachable and learnable history and theory, and it continues to evolve in countless directions. The pillar of academic research is the spirit of science. Understanding this spirit is like designers realizing that every design is first a job. So when you see a three-month graphic design crash course in the newspaper again, you might smile knowingly.
Professors Hegmann, Yao Erdan, Les, Zhosu Le, Matis, and Vasily are undoubtedly outstanding graphic designers of this era. This series introduces their understanding of design and their methods of design education. Most importantly, it also introduces the creations of young designers influenced by them. I once again thank them for their assistance! I also thank China Youth Press for their support!
Postscript: Three people walk together, and there will always be a teacher among them!
