Scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, and China discussed various issues in socio-legal studies at the conference, marking the first time Chinese legal scholars and sociologists engaged in a face-to-face academic dialogue. This book is a collection of papers from that conference. The book is divided into four parts. The first part, "Research on Rules," includes three papers that introduce the implementation of law as rules in China from different perspectives. The second part, "Law as a Way of Social Governance," discusses topics such as "Law in Civil Life," "Mediation, Culture, and Governance," and "Non-Litigious Mediation Systems." The third part, "Research on Legal Consciousness and Rights," consists of one paper by an overseas scholar and one by a domestic scholar, providing a comparative perspective. The fourth part, "Research on the Rule of Law in China," offers a high-level analysis by the author on possible pathways to building a rule-of-law-based China.
