Features: In the early years of the Republic of China, acupuncture nearly became an extinct art! To promote the revival of acupuncture, Master Cheng Dan'an broke through the discriminatory policies of the Republic government, which even sought to abolish Traditional Chinese Medicine, and (resolutely opened an academy). He meticulously studied ancient texts, shared his family's knowledge openly, and taught over ten thousand students who spread across the country and overseas, contributing his life's work to the resurgence and promotion of acupuncture. Many of Master Cheng Dan'an's academic thoughts and principles not only represented the highest level of understanding of acupuncture theory at the time but also had a profound impact on modern acupuncture research and development. He is the pioneer who laid the foundation for the transition from traditional to modern acupuncture. In 1955, Master Cheng Dan'an was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The authors of this book spent three years of diligent effort, visiting Master Cheng's disciples, and thoroughly studying his writings and lecture notes. They systematically elaborate on Master Cheng Dan'an's acupuncture academic thoughts from ten aspects: the value of acupuncture, scientific perspective, educational philosophy, view on acupuncture points, understanding of meridians, acupuncture techniques, acupuncture instruments, moxibustion methods, the combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine, and the integration of Chinese and Western medicine. Based on this foundation, the book focuses on introducing clinical case studies by Master Cheng Dan'an and his disciples. These cases cover various clinical disciplines, including internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, and pediatrics, with extensive and detailed descriptions of treatment processes. Some cases also include personal comments written by Master Cheng Dan'an himself. Regardless of whether the cases come from Master Cheng Dan'an or his disciples, they all align with his acupuncture treatment philosophy and provide strong guidance for clinical practice. This book serves as an essential reference for those engaged in acupuncture education, research, and clinical practice.
