Features: Long before the Republic of China, Roman law had already been introduced to China. During the late Qing Dynasty, the Imperial Law School in Beijing offered courses on Roman law. After the Xinhai Revolution, Peking University was renamed, and Roman law was listed as one of the main subjects in the law department. At that time, a large number of scholars dedicated to studying Roman law emerged, such as Chen Yun, Ying Shi, Jin Lansun, Huang Youchang, Chen Chaobei, Zhou Dan, Wang Qufei, and Qiu Hanping, among others. A series of Roman law works were also produced, such as Huang Youchang's Roman Law and Modernity (1913 edition), etc. Compared to the research achievements of other scholars on Roman law, Qiu Hanping's book stands out for its systematic completeness, detailed annotations, rich content, and fluent language. Its publication laid the foundation for the study of Roman law in China during the Republic of China.
