Geoeconomics

Features: This book introduces a new and important field in economics—geoeconomics, primarily explaining the spatial distribution of economic activities. It aims to integrate and apply perspectives from different fields of economics, making it highly beneficial for students and scholars specializing in international economics, international business, economic geography, regional economics, and urban economics. We provide an "introduction" not to deliberately avoid economic models or complex concepts, but to write a book that guides readers and students unfamiliar with geoeconomics into this field, making it more accessible. Although we introduce and discuss various economic models and approaches, we strive to minimize the use of specialized terminology. Whenever possible, we use dedicated annotation boxes to help readers grasp important concepts and extensively employ examples and diagrams to explain the operation of models. Chapter 3 explains the structure of the core models in geoeconomics and introduces their historical context through six specialized annotations. The level of arithmetic required throughout the book does not exceed the basic analytical skills expected of advanced undergraduate and graduate students in economics and other social sciences. The target readers of this book are not limited to these students but also include professionals working in government agencies, banks, international organizations, and private research institutions, as well as practitioners and scholars in international business and economic geography. The latter group may find the book particularly engaging if they discover that the analysis of the geographical distribution of economic activities aligns with their perspectives.
