Features: Modern Shanghai was not only the center of economic and cultural development but also a major hub for legal education. According to incomplete statistics, at least two-thirds of legal works published since modern times were printed in Shanghai. With its boundless inclusiveness, Shanghai made significant contributions to the development of Chinese law that matched its status. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, in accordance with the state's unified arrangement, the law departments of Fudan University, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Anhui University, Zhendan University, Shanghai College, and the Law School of Dongwu University, as well as the political departments of Fudan University, Nanjing University, Hujiang University, and St. John's University, and the sociology department of Hujiang University, were merged to form East China University of Political Science and Law. The original legal literature and materials of these departments were also consolidated into East China University of Political Science and Law. Therefore, it can be said that East China University of Political Science and Law gathered most of the modern legal books published in the former East China region. Although the university later went through a tortuous journey of "two declines and three rises" and the devastation of the "Cultural Revolution," under the efforts of its leaders and faculty, most of the legal books were preserved. These books played a significant role in promoting legal education at East China University of Political Science and Law and in Shanghai, as well as advancing and flourishing legal research. However, due to the publishing era and the printing conditions at the time, most of these books are now inconvenient to read. Additionally, as they are mostly "unique copies," from the perspective of preserving literature, they are generally kept as library collections and not lent out. This is highly unfavorable for both readers' research and the realization of these books' potential. For this reason, with the care and support of the leadership of East China University of Political Science and Law, and with the assistance and planning of China, we have decided to organize and proofread some works published during the Republican era that still hold high academic value, and to publish them in the form of the "Treasured Republican Legal Classics Series of East China University of Political Science and Law" to meet the learning and research needs of the academic community and students and teachers of law schools. The proofreading work of this series is carried out by the Library of East China University of Political Science and Law, with mainly teachers, doctoral students, and master's students of East China University of Political Science and Law participating. Due to our limited knowledge, there may be various problems and shortcomings in the proofreading process. We sincerely welcome readers to point out any issues and correct them.
