Features: I—Remi—always lived with Maman Barberin in humble yet happy days, until one day, a man who demanded I call him "Father", revealing that I was the abandoned child they had taken in. I was sold to the Vitalis Circus, and from then on, I embarked on a life of wandering. Fortunately, my master was a kind and benevolent person, allowing me to have a brief yet happy time. During my travels, one event followed another: my master being arrested and imprisoned, forming an instant connection with the owner of the "Swan," parting ways with the circus, meeting a family of mute girls, and buying a cow for Maman Barberin. Suddenly learning that my family was searching for me, I set off again for Paris, finally reuniting with them. Yet at this point, I had lost all the enthusiasm I once had for finding my family—could my family truly be this band of thieves? Hector Malot, the author of Les Misérables, was one of the writers who contributed to the development and refinement of the contemporary melodrama novel, earning a place in the history of modern French literature. Born in 1830 in a village called Lave, his father was a lawyer who hoped he would follow in his footsteps, sending him to Paris to study law. However, Malot fell in love with literature, and the publication of his novel The Artists caught the attention of literary critics. He was a prolific writer, having written over seventy novels in his lifetime. The "Illustrated Classics of World Literature" series being released this time is a carefully curated collection based on the original works.
