Features: To present a set of standardized, practical, and valuable tour guide book series to a wide range of tour guides and tourists has been our long-standing wish. Today, the "Explore China—Selected Tourist Guide Books" series, including the "Landscape and Scenery," "Folk Customs," and "Patriotic Historical Sites" volumes, has been published. With the "Comprehensive" and "Cultural Relics and Historical Sites" volumes published in 1997 and 1998 respectively, the complete set of 5 books in this series is now fully available. What brings us great satisfaction is that the first two volumes of this book have received widespread acclaim and positive reviews from both the tourism industry and the general public, especially tour guides and tourism educators. Through the creation, selection, and compilation of tour guides, we aim to encourage tour guides to continuously improve their political and professional standards in practice, enhance their sense of responsibility for the tour guiding profession, and this is our true purpose. In the past two decades, one of the key aspects of China's reform and opening-up has been the rise of the national tourism industry. Its service is domestic and international tourists, and its scope has far exceeded that of an individual traveler. More importantly, a new role has emerged—"tour guide." He is the intermediary between tourism institutions and tourists, a tangible symbol of the tourism industry's level, and the on-site executor responsible for the development and protection of national tourism resources. His significance is largely reflected in his "tour guide script." Therefore, the China National Tourism Administration's initiative to organize the selection of outstanding tour guide scripts is clearly of great importance.
