Features: World War II was the largest conflict in human history. In this war between the fascist axis powers and the anti-fascist alliance, the number of troops and weaponry deployed, the vast scope of the battlefields, the novelty of combat forms, the magnitude of losses, and the depth of its impact were unprecedented. Nearly 60 years have passed since World War II, and with the passage of time, things have changed, but it still captivates numerous military strategists and historians from China and abroad with its grandeur, profound meaning, and rich heritage. The "World Famous Person Picture Album" series, written by a group of young and middle-aged military historians with expertise both within and outside the military, is another significant work in this regard. The series currently includes 15 prominent figures such as "Roosevelt," "Churchill," "Stalin," "Eisenhower," "Patton," "MacArthur," "Montgomery," "Rokossovsky," "De Gaulle," "Hitler," "Mussolini," "G?ring," "Rommel," "Tojo," and "Yamamoto." It covers the representative figures who played decisive roles in politics and military affairs on both sides during World War II.
The current world is in a period of great change. The Cold War has ended, and the bipolar has collapsed. It may be possible to avoid a new world war in the coming years. However, the world is far from a paradise, and the existence of hegemonism and power politics remains the main obstacle to solving issues of peace and development. Therefore, all those concerned with the international situation and future development, all young people who aspire to serve their country for peace and the happiness of the people, and all who are about to become commanders or are determined to do so should read this series. He who is not afraid of difficulties can overcome them. It is hoped that this series can provide valuable reference for aspiring individuals and a broad readership.
Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov was born on December 2, 1896, into a cobbler's family in Kaluga Province, southwest of Moscow. At the age of 19, he enlisted in the army and participated in World War. In June 1940, he was promoted to the rank of General of the Army and appointed commander of the Kyiv Special Military District. In January 1941, Zhukov was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Red Army, becoming the head of the Soviet military. Zhukov was an outstanding military strategist of the modern era, renowned for his achievements, and was awarded six Order of Lenin, one Order of October Revolution, three Order of the Red Banner, two Order of Suvorov, two Order of Victory, and numerous medals and foreign decorations. His remarkable contributions to the Soviet Union's war earned him a place in history alongside such Russian national heroes as Kutuzov and Suvorov. As Eisenhower praised, "One day there will certainly be another Russian medal—the Zhukov Medal. This medal will be cherished by every one who admires the courage, vision, determination, and resolve of soldiers." Zhukov was a symbol of victory on the battlefield. In 1974, this highly decorated marshal passed away.
