Features: With the prosperity and development of China's publishing industry, the cultivation and construction of publishing talent have increasingly demonstrated their importance and urgency. Since the establishment of publishing majors in higher education institutions, not only have higher requirements been raised for the construction of publishing and editing disciplines, but there is also an urgent need during the educational process for a systematic, comprehensive, and accurate textbook that summarizes and reflects the laws of China's publishing work, possesses a complete disciplinary system, and has its own distinctive features. To overcome the disconnection and lag of textbooks and ensure that textbook work can develop in sync with the construction of publishing majors, the Editorial and Publishing Textbook Leading Group was established in May 1989 with the approval of the State Administration of Press and Publication. In August of the same year, a planning symposium for higher education textbooks in the field of publishing and editing was held in Yantai, where the "Preliminary Plan for the Writing and Publishing of Higher Education Textbooks in the Field of Publishing and Editing" was formulated. Following this symposium, the Editorial Textbook Review Committee and the Publishing Textbook Review Committee were established accordingly. In May 1990 and April 1991, joint meetings of the review committees were held in Hangzhou and Luoyang, respectively, to discuss the working regulations of the two committees and the quality and format requirements for textbook writing. Additionally, the outlines for more than ten textbooks, such as "Introduction to Book Editing" and "Introduction to Periodical Editing," were discussed, and the specific plans for writing and publishing were finalized. Subsequently, the writing of textbooks for the publishing major was carried out in an orderly manner. This series of textbooks is a key project in the textbook construction of the State Administration of Press and Publication and was included in the "Eighth Five-Year Plan" for higher education textbooks by the State Education Commission in 1992.
