After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Dr. Norman Bethune, a Canadian Communist Party member, came to China and arrived in Yan'an. He soon transferred to the Jin-Cha-Oi Border Region to work. Under extremely harsh conditions, he risked his own safety, wholeheartedly served the Chinese anti-Japanese armed forces, and trained a large number of medical personnel, making outstanding contributions to the liberation cause of the Chinese people. He died of poisoning from treating wounded soldiers on November 12, 1939, in Tang County, Hebei.
