On October 12 of the following year, before the counterattack on the 38th Parallel in North Korea, he hid with his unit in grass near enemy mountains, waiting to coordinate with the main force's attack. Unexpectedly, the grass at their hiding spot was set ablaze by enemy incendiary bombs. To prevent the enemy from discovering the unit's hidden position, he withstood the flames on his body, lying motionless until his death.
