Features: "Applied Statistics Tutorial" is one of the graduate series textbooks of Xidian University. The book consists of three parts and fourteen chapters, systematically introducing the main branches of applied statistics, such as mathematical statistics, process statistics, and statistical decision analysis, as well as their applications in fields like engineering, economics, finance, and management. The book is published in two volumes.
Volume 1 of the "Tutorial" is the first part—Mathematical Statistics Basics, comprising five chapters. It primarily introduces the fundamental theories and applications of mathematical statistics, including topics such as probability theory basics, sampling surveys and sampling distributions, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, and regression analysis.
Volume 2 of the "Tutorial" includes the second part (Process Statistics and Statistical Decision Analysis, Chapters 6–9) and the third part (Applied Statistical Analysis, Chapters 10–14). The second part focuses on process statistics and statistical decision analysis, covering topics such as statistical inference for various common random processes (e.g., homogeneous and non-homogeneous Poisson processes, homogeneous Markov chains, renewal processes, stationary processes, and normal processes), Bayesian decision-making, probabilistic ranking-type decision-making, and mixed strategy analysis. The third part systematically introduces the theories, specialized knowledge, basic approaches and methods for solving practical problems, as well as application cases of mathematical statistics and process statistics in fields such as software reliability, enterprise management, macroeconomics, social insurance, and securities investment.
This book is suitable as a teaching text for graduate students (master's and doctoral) in management, economics, finance, engineering, and applied mathematics (both volumes), as well as undergraduate students (Volume 1), and can also serve as a reference for relevant teachers and researchers. For guidance on how graduate and undergraduate students should select content from this textbook, please refer to the table in the preface.
