Features: The 2004 Spring Issue of Fudan Foreign Language and Literature Studies is the third issue edited and published by the School of Foreign Languages, Fudan University. The first two issues were respectively edited by Professor Yongsheng Zhu and Professor Xiaoyuan Chu as String Songs and Foreign Language and Literature Studies. To further promote academic research in foreign language and literature in China, as well as to inherit and carry forward the fine academic traditions of the School of Foreign Languages, Fudan University, with the strong support of Fudan University Press, this issue onwards will be named Fudan Foreign Language and Literature Studies, and under favorable conditions, it will be published in a regular form, with two issues per year. Although the Studies is named after Fudan, we do not intend to make it an academic garden exclusively for Fudan people. "Fudan" merely indicates the location of this Studies platform. Due to various reasons, like the previous issues, the "Spring Issue" mainly presents some research achievements of the faculty of the School. We believe that as the Studies matures and its reputation and recognition in academia grow, scholars from other institutions will be willing to contribute to it. This issue of the Studies includes a total of 47 papers, covering many aspects such as linguistics, literature, translation studies, English teaching, cultural studies, etc. The languages involved include English, Japanese, French, German, Korean, and Russian, providing a comprehensive reflection of the broad academic research fields and status of the School of Foreign Languages. The authors of this issue are mostly faculty members of the School, with some being graduate students. I am responsible for editing this issue. During the editing process, Fudan University Press provided us with much assistance, and Zhang Ping and other colleagues from the School Office also offered many conveniences. I would like to express my gratitude to all of them.
