Pharmacology of biochemical drugs

Author: Pan Jiahu
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-09-01
Features: This textbook primarily focuses on the biochemical and molecular pharmacological mechanisms of drugs at the aforementioned targets, combining newly developed drugs currently used in clinical practice to reflect the latest advancements in biochemical pharmacology and meet teaching needs. The textbook has expanded from 3 chapters (Receptor Pharmacology, Free Radical Pharmacology, and Enzyme Pharmacology) from the original edition (edited by Professor Jiang Minghua) to 8 chapters. "Receptor Pharmacology," "Ion Channel Pharmacology," "Free Radical Pharmacology," and "Drug Metabolism Enzyme Pharmacology" are the main fields of study for various targets and form the foundation of this book; "Antitumor Pharmacology" and "Antiviral Pharmacology" represent two important branches of pharmacological research. The widespread application of molecular biology techniques has made the study of endogenous small and large bioactive molecules highly active, hence this book dedicates a chapter to "Pharmacology of Bioactive Molecules." "New Techniques in Biochemical Pharmacological Detection" reflects the technological advancements driving the progress of biochemical pharmacology. This book attempts to present a comprehensive view of biochemical pharmacology through these 8 chapters. Given that postgenomics and proteomics are still evolving, this book does not have a dedicated chapter on them but mentions them in relevant sections. Each chapter of this textbook is written by experts and professors with specialized knowledge to ensure the authority of its content. The chapters are concise yet comprehensive, highlighting the latest advancements. As there is no systematic textbook of "Biochemical Pharmacology" available domestically, the writing and publication of this textbook represent a valuable attempt to fill this gap. Due to the authors' academic limitations, there may be imperfections in the chapter arrangement and content selection. We hope this book can serve as a stepping stone, inspiring more authoritative works that fully reflect the scope and progress of biochemical pharmacology. Biochemical pharmacology has long been a crucial field in exploring the biochemical and molecular biological mechanisms of drugs at various targets. Although traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, biochemical and biotechnological drugs, marine drugs, and other types of drugs differ in origin and form, they all exert therapeutic effects by acting on specific targets in the body. These drug targets have always been a focal point of international biomedical research and the primary goals for drug discovery. In recent years, the Pharmacological Targets Database (PTD) established by Trends in Pharmacological Sciences (TiPS) has compiled decades of research achievements in biomedical fields. This database includes information on approximately 300 targets across 45 categories of receptors, 13 categories of ion channels, transporters, and enzymes (the list of these targets can be found in the appendix of this book).
