After Microsoft's Visual FoxPro 8.0 was released, the uncertainty among users about whether the company would continue to develop FoxPro databases was resolved, as its 7.0 version had not been included in the official Visual Studio .NET release. Visual FoxPro (commonly abbreviated as VFP, which is the term used after FoxPro 3.0, including VFP 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, and 8.0) is one of the fastest and most widely used databases today. It has replaced the position previously held by dBASE, which was used by 80% of microcomputer users, and has become the industry standard for xBASE-compatible relational databases.
This book consists of 14 chapters and two appendices, with a focus on VFP 6.0 and 8.0 (the former is widely used, and the latter fully compatible with the former) to provide a detailed explanation of VFP programming (including report and menu designers), table operations, database meaning extension, sharing and exchanging data between VFP and other software (object linking and embedding OLE and ActiveX), and more. It particularly emphasizes VFP's forms (Forms), object-oriented programming, views (SQLViews), CursorAdapter, client/server programming, and VFP's ActiveDocument and VFP WebServices, as well as their operation on the Internet.
This book is the 10th book the author wrote about FoxPro software after returning to China over a decade ago (1987). It enhances the examples of object-oriented programming, is illustrated with visuals, and emphasizes practicality. It can be used as a textbook for computer science majors and non-computer majors (examination level) in higher education institutions, and also serves as a reference book for a broad range of VFP developers.
