Features: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been used for disease prevention and treatment for thousands of years. Recent scientific research has demonstrated the pharmacological and clinical application value of many TCMs. Unfortunately, due to the lack of modern quality control technologies for TCM, its reputation has declined, and its application scope has been limited. In both the medicinal material market and literature reports, it is often found that TCMs suffer from homonymy or synonymy. To establish a sound system for the application of TCM, it is necessary to strengthen the quality control of raw materials and products of TCM. Molecular Identification of Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on introducing over ten commonly used basic molecular biology analysis methods and their applications in the molecular identification of TCM. The book consists of three parts, totaling 14 chapters. The first part reviews the current status of molecular identification of TCM, briefly introduces its application scope, lists the experimental procedures and operational precautions of conventional molecular techniques, as well as the commonly used instruments and reagents. The second part provides a detailed description of the principles and operational steps of using molecular markers for the identification of TCM. The third part introduces the prospects of molecular identification of TCM, evaluates the advantages and limitations of various molecular techniques in the field of TCM identification, and explores the development trends of these technologies, as well as their potential future applications and value. At the end of the book, there are two appendices: Biological Informatics Knowledge for Molecular Identification of TCM and Bibliography of Selected Papers on Molecular Identification of TCM. The latter is a compilation and collection of original literature materials from domestic and international sources by the editor, up to the end of May 2004, and is hoped to provide readers with references. This book is of certain reference value for researchers, educators, and professionals in fields such as TCM identification science, pharmacognosy, and TCM resource science, as well as for those involved in the production, supply, and distribution of medicinal materials, management and operation, and drug inspection.
