Features: In today's information society, English, as an international language, has played a significant role in promoting the development of the national economy. Learning English has become a compulsory course for countless young Chinese people before job hunting. Especially in recent years, as the 2008 Olympic Games approached, the number of people participating in English learning has entered a phase of nationwide education. However, due to a lack of understanding of the European cultural background, people often face difficulties when reading English books or journals or communicating with English-speaking individuals. Since Eastern and Western cultures have significant differences, from minor aspects like proverbs and names to major ones such as philosophical thoughts, artistic creations, and literary works of each era, they are all closely tied to the culture of the time. Literary works, in particular, are vast and comprehensive. By reading the works of different authors, we can not only understand the cultural background and social landscape of Western society but also grasp the perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints of the masters. Therefore, we believe that literary classics are the golden key to unlocking Western culture. Based on these reasons, we have chosen to publish this series of commonly used English classic literary works as a gift to friends who are dedicated to improving their English reading skills and further understanding Western culture. Excellent literary works are an indispensable spiritual food for people, playing a vital role in cultivating moral character, broadening horizons, enriching imagination, and refining emotions. The publication of English-language literary classics can even allow readers to deeply experience the authentic essence of Western culture, appreciate its unique charm, and thereby enrich their thoughts, adding color to the knowledge that should rightfully belong to their minds. We hope you can find what you seek in this series.
