Features: For those who study Western society in China, political cartoons provide a cultural level that you usually cannot see: what people worry about, what they debate, and their perspectives on each other. Western political cartoons have a history of 200 years, and many international scholars use cartoons to understand the past of Western Europe and North America. We should learn to understand modern Western society through contemporary cartoons, which can give you a deeper understanding of a country than movies. The "Bilingual Window" section of Beijing Youth News has launched a column on American political cartoons, and this book is a collection of those cartoons. Dr. William White, a Chinese expert, provides background introductions for each cartoon. When you laugh, you gain a deeper understanding of American society and its culture. From the perspective of English learning, the language in the cartoons provides popular vocabulary of contemporary English, and you can remember it in a fun way. We welcome everyone to join us in understanding American political cartoons and the social life behind them through this book—or through the "Bilingual Window" section of Beijing Youth News, of course.
