Features: The Complete Works of Li Kaixian are divided into three volumes, including poems, plays, qu (a form of Chinese poetry), qu theory, and miscellaneous writings. Except for two qu poems (A Gift to Kang Duishan and Ill in Jiangao), all were written after Li Kaixian returned to his hometown. Li Kaixian's works can be seen as a microcosm of his time. He wrote about the nation, the government, and himself. His depictions of the government were often infused with his personal likes and dislikes, while his expressions of personal joy were always intertwined with the fate of the state. Sometimes driven by vanity, he might say some grand or empty words, but most of his writings were heartfelt and unadorned. In almost all his works, he earnestly recalled the past or expressed his innermost feelings.
