Features: People extract various kinds of information from nature through their senses, among which the amount of information extracted by the human eye through vision is the most, the most diverse, and the most reliable. The proverb "Seeing is believing" illustrates this principle. Image sensors can expand the visual range of the human eye, allowing people to see the microscopic world and the macroscopic world that the naked eye cannot perceive, observe events happening in places they cannot temporarily reach, and see various physical and chemical change processes, as well as the occurrence and development processes of life, physiology, and diseases, and so on. It is clear that image sensors play a very important role in people's culture, sports, production, life, and scientific research. It can be said that modern human activities cannot be separated from image sensors. Image sensors are devices developed on the basis of optoelectronic technology, which convert optical images into one-dimensional time-series signals. They include vacuum tube image sensors such as electron beam cameras, image intensifiers, and variable phase tubes, as well as semiconductor integrated image sensors like CCD (Charge-Coupled Devices) and CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor), and scanning-type image sensors, among others. Among them, vacuum image sensors such as electron beam cameras are gradually being replaced by semiconductor integrated image sensors like CCD and CMOS. Therefore, this book focuses on teaching the principles and application technologies of semiconductor image sensors and scanning-type image sensors. This book explains the basic working principles of CCD, CMOS semiconductor image sensors, and thermal image sensors from an application perspective; the basic characteristics and parameter specifications of typical image sensors; the driving methods of typical image sensors and their interface methods with computers; and the basic concepts and calculation methods of light sources and optical systems in typical image sensor applications. In the end, some typical application examples are listed. This book can serve as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate students in fields such as optoelectronic information engineering, metrology and testing instruments, measurement and control technology and instruments, surveying and mapping engineering, environmental engineering, mechatronics engineering, public security image technology, optoelectronic detection instruments, optical technology and instruments, and biomedical engineering. It can also be used as a reference book for science and technology personnel in the field of optoelectronics.
