Features: In recent years, modern Chinese literary works have gained increasing attention and appreciation from academic circles and collectors of rare books. Particularly the works created and published between 1911 and 1949, which are academically defined as belonging to the "New Literature Period of China," are now rare to behold. Due to their limited circulation at the time (usually between one to two thousand copies) and the passage of decades, their traces are now exceptionally hard to find. By chance and with diligent effort, we, a group of learners yet to enter the halls of academia but deeply devoted to the subject, have collaborated to create a book titled Shuying (Book Shadows), combining over 300 photographs of actual books and supporting textual materials. Readers may find in these old pages the scent of romanticism taking root and blossoming in the soil of Chinese literature. At the same time, they should also recognize the " Vernacular Movement" as a highly prominent milestone in the history of Chinese literature. In this book, the editors have strived to include as many varieties and styles as possible in both the content and cover designs, aiming to provide a concise, comprehensive overview of "New Literature" in a "picture-dominated, text-supplementary" format.
