Features: Several years ago, I had wanted to write this piece, "Heavy Pupils—A Self-Portrait of a King," but I started three times and gave up each time. I couldn’t find the narrative form I longed for. Until last summer, it seemed as if I suddenly discovered it, naturally as a magnet finds iron. The rest was simple—I practically wrote it all in one go. This kind of unrestrained, exhilarating experience is truly a blessing. I believe "how to write" will be a lifelong pursuit for a novelist. Pan Jun is an insatiable explorer, exploring a loose and ever-changing narrative style, and more importantly, exploring the personalization of life. Pan Jun’s novels are deeply evocative, each one a trap that lures you in, yet leaves you with nothing, only lingering aftertaste. Perhaps this is the unique charm of Pan Jun’s novels.
