Features: China had records and interpretations of myths as early as the pre-Qin era over 2,000 years ago. However, the scientific collection and study of these myths began only after the "May Fourth" Movement at the beginning of the 20th century. The establishment of New China transformed the collection and organization of these myths into a people's own endeavor. Especially in the recent dozen years following the reform and opening-up, under the leadership of the Party and government, the nationwide, vigorous compilation of the "Three Great Collections of Folk Literature" (tales, songs, and proverbs) once again conducted an unprecedented survey and cleanup of this vast spiritual and cultural treasure, thereby fundamentally comprehensively and accurately clarifying its characteristics. Following the release of the "World Folk Tale Classics Library," Xinlei Publishing House invested considerable human and material resources, compiling and selecting this large-scale illustrated album based on the results of the national folk literature survey. Their intention is clear—to bring this precious heritage of the motherland onto the stage of world literature, bridging the East with the West and helping the world understand China. With a strong sense of national self-esteem and a sense of social responsibility, they have consciously taken on the heavy burden of promoting the excellent traditional culture of the motherland, enthusiastically spreading these golden seeds to readers at home and abroad.
