Features: The pastoral poetry of ancient China was pioneered by the great Eastern Jin poet Tao Yuanming. As a result, he is known as the "pastoral poet." By the Tang Dynasty, more people wrote pastoral poetry, giving rise to what is known as the "pastoral poetry school." After the Tang Dynasty, no other prominent or influential schools of this kind of poetry emerged, but the pastoral theme never left the field of poetic creation. People are accustomed to calling this kind of poetry "pastoral poetry." When compiling a selection of ancient pastoral poetry, one should focus on the thematic content of poetry across different dynasties, rather than limiting it to a few writers who are labeled as "pastoral poets." This approach prevents narrowing the scope of pastoral poetry too much and aligns with the actual practice of ancient poetic creation. Based on this understanding, this book includes not only the works of orthodox "pastoral poets" but also many works by other writers on similar themes. It features poems that describe pastoral landscapes, field labor, and reflections on pastoral life, as well as selections that depict herding, logging, sericulture, weaving, fishing, hunting, and religious festivals. In short, any poem that portrays rural scenery, agricultural activities, rural life, or manual farming is included. The goal is to make the collection as rich as possible. Thus, this is a broad selection of pastoral poetry.
