Features: The textbook "Medical Immunology and Microbiology" covers the content of two fundamental medical courses: Medical Immunology and Medical Microbiology. Medical Immunology is a branch of Medical Microbiology, but it has evolved to encompass a broader research scope beyond infectious immunity, becoming a cutting-edge discipline in life sciences and medicine. This textbook was developed based on the "Microbiology" textbook for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) majors, published in 1986, with the aim of cultivating health technology professionals who can meet the needs of social progress and human health development in the new century.
According to the primary target audience of the textbook—students majoring in TCM-related fields in TCM colleges and universities—the writing strives to reflect the "Three Basics" (basic theories, fundamental knowledge, and essential skills), "Three Specifics" (specific target audience, specific requirements, and specific limitations), and "Five Qualities" (ideological nature, scientific rigor, inspirational value, advanced content, and adaptability). Building on the original foundation, the textbook has further expanded the content of Medical Immunology and Microbiology while also enhancing the relationship between TCM and microbiology, as well as the microbiological testing of TCM herbal preparations.
The textbook not only highlights the new theories and advancements in immunology and microbiology but also emphasizes the systematicity and completeness of the content to facilitate student understanding, especially the complex mechanisms of immune system activities and the biological characteristics, pathogenicity, and immunogenicity of microorganisms. Additionally, it covers microbiological testing and the relationship between TCM herbal preparations and microbiological examination. This textbook is suitable for students majoring in various TCM-related fields in higher education institutions, as well as for students in the seven-year TCM program, acupuncture and moxibustion programs, and medical management programs.
